BFA president calls for unity

The new president of the Botswana Football Association (BFA) David Fani has called on the football fraternity to close ranks.

"There is no way we can achieve a common goal if we do not work together. Furthermore, it is only through working together that we can win respect from stakeholders," he said. Fani was addressing chairpersons of Premier League clubs yesterday at a one-day workshop meant to come up with ways of improving the competition. The workshop was meant to discuss some of the constitutional changes suggested by the Bosele declaration. Fani said some of the proposed changes were accepted during the recent BFA annual general meeting. "It is time that we revisit the ones that were not accepted and amend them if we can," Fani said. He added that there is need for professionalism in football, especially at the Premier League level.

"We should have a fully professional set up and we should all practice what we have agreed on. I know change is not easy to accept but there are some things that we need to discard if our football is to grow," he said. Fani encouraged clubs to move fast to establish offices. He promised that he will hold consultations to come up with ways of helping clubs to acquire offices. The chairman of the Premier League Committee (PLC), Mokganedi Molefhe said at the workshop that only eight of the 16 Premier League clubs have offices. Molefhe is worried that some of the stakeholders do not take collective responsibility seriously.
