BFA ordered to revisit Rollers' case

A member of the sports National Appeals Board (NAB), Dickson Gabanakgosi, has failed to explain why he barred the press from the hearing of the P150,000 Orange-Township Rollers sponsorship case last Friday. When challenged to justify his action, Gabanakgosi could not come up with a convincing answer.

He only said that in the past, the media was not allowed to attend the NAB sessions. However, this is not true because the press has always attended the proceedings. Gabanakgosi who is working for the Department of Sports and Recreation, could not quote any regulation or law empowering him to stop the media from attending the proceedings.

At the end of the NAB hearing on Friday, the sponsorship dispute was referred to the Botswana Football Association (BFA). The BFA has opposed the deal between the cellular company and the Premier League giants because of a clash with another sponsorship with Orange rivals, Mascom cellular company. Mascom sponsors the Premier League and it was felt that the Orange sponsorship would create a problem.
