BFA moves to protect coaches

Premier League clubs are known to be trigger-happy when it comes to firing coaches, but as Mmegi Correspondent LEKOPANYE MOOKETSI reports, exploiting coaches might soon be a thing of the past.

The be MOBILE Premier League clubs have become notorious for hiring and firing coaches at will. There is a widely held view that Premier League clubs exploit coaches, most of whom are foreigners. Some coaches have challenged their dismissals and dragged clubs to the Industrial Court.  In some cases, the coaches would leave for their respective countries before the matter has been heard in court.

Coaching has become such an insecure job in the country that coaches' contracts are often terminated just months into their jobs and in some instances they leave without receiving their salaries. Former Township Rollers Zambian coach, Wesley Mondo, left the team claiming he was owed thousands in unpaid salaries. Some coaches have left better paying jobs in other countries after they were lured with good promises by local teams.  But such coaches ended up being dumped after a stint with the local clubs.
