BFA grapples with Golden Girls' case

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) says it is looking at ways to help the Serowe-based Golden Girls to take part in the competition next season.

Agreement Podi, the BFA Women Football League Committee chairperson says they made the decision because it is clear that the club would not take part in the league in the current season. The newly-formed club is the only women football side in the north. It was locked out of the league after southern clubs indicated that they could not afford to travel to the north for matches. Podi says they are currently talking to clubs to see if they can travel to the north in future to play Golden Girls. In the meantime, they would always invite the team for tournaments.

Golden Girls' coach Ramochotlhwane told Mmegi Sport that they have not received any formal correspondence on their exclusion from the league. He said they are working to register more female soccer sides in the north. Already, a number of clubs have been formed and are in the process of registering, he stated. Ramochotlhwane believes by next year, they will organise their own league in the north.
