BFA escapes court action over debt

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) president David Fani has said the association was nearly dragged to court over unpaid debts and the government had to step in to avert disaster.

Fani said in Selebi-Phikwe over the weekend that when his committee took office last August, the BFA was P4 million in the red and some of the people owed were threatening to take legal action.

He said the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture helped clear some of the debts and save the image of the BFA. He asserted that court action would have damaged the reputation of the BFA. He said the development of soccer in Botswana is hamstrung by shortage of facilities and funds. Fani was addressing Selebi-Phikwe football region members.
