*Supersport deal hangs in balance

Premier League sponsor, be MOBILE has reportedly threatened to withhold prize money if a broadcasting deal is not struck soon. The Botswana Football Association (BFA) and the Botswana Premier League (BPL) last week confirmed that a deal had been reached with South African pay-per-view channel, Supersport. However, the deal will reportedly only come into effect if state broadcaster, Botswana Television (Btv) agrees to purchase feed at P4.2 million from Supersport.

This is a fraction of the P10 million production costs Supersport expects to incur over 20 weeks of broadcasting the local league.  It is understood, however, that Btv has allegedly refused to play ball thus far, throwing the whole deal into jeopardy.  BFA president Tebogo Sebego had confirmed the signing of the deal last week, but at a breakfast meeting yesterday, Multichoice Botswana general manager, Billy Sekgororoane, told reporters that there was no deal going forward yet.
