It took only 13 minutes for the army side to draw first blood as Madziba converted a cross from Bitwell Phiri. The goal jolted Nico into action as they attacked BDF XI, but their efforts were futile as goalkeeper Mwampule Masule proved the stumbling block. After the break, Nico increased tempo and had more chances at goal but failed to convert. BDF XI did not sit back, but kept pushing forward. The home side could have equalised in the 60th minute when towering Zambian forward, Christopher Musonda slipped past the defence only to be denied by the far post. Both teams made substitutions with Nico pushing for an equaliser while BDF XI wanted to protect their goal and perhaps increase lead.

Khumoetsile Kufigwa was introduced in 63rd minute for Richard Legwaila. BDF XI introduced Lorato Mosweu pulling out Phiri in the 71st minute. After the 80th minute, Obonye Marope replaced Ofentse Mmipi.
