Basketball squads to be named

The national basketball final 12-member squads for both men and women will be announced after friendly matches against BBA All-Stars selected sides at the UB courts in Gaborone on Saturday.

The teams are preparing for next month's Afro Basket qualifiers to be staged in Maputo, Mozambique. The provisional squads, named after the Top Four finals early last month, resumed training on January 7 after the December lull that saw some of the players miss practice sessions.The 21-member teams will be trimmed to 12 before friendly international matches in Mafikeng, South Africa, the following weekend.

Assistant coach James Kalebwa said he was happy with the players' response to training, adding that electing the final 12 would be a big headache for the technical team.The "valiant dozen" will be announced after the games against a team picked from Botswana Basketball League clubs.Thereafter, the final squad will train for a week in Gaborone before travelling to Mafikeng for two friendly matches.
