Bar woman honoured as golfing great

ORAPA: Golfers took time off Saturday to recognise a pioneer female golfer who has been with the Orapa Golf Club (OGC) for 25 years.

Members of the OGC committee, John Dzungu, Thuso Sefawe, Walter Seokomeng and Richard Moyo organised a tournament to honour 54-year-old Jeanne Chamme who started as a bar attendant at the club in 1986.

By then, the club was dominated by whites and golf was a no-go area for  blacks. Over the weekend, Chamme, who boasts a handicap of 25, was in the thick of things with 22 other golfers in an 18-hole game. It was only four years ago that she took up the clubs and started golfing. She is now the manager of the bar.
