Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) president Moses Bantsi has been voted the Confederation of Africa Athletics Southern Region (CAASR) president, which he believes is as a result of the country's good performances at international level.

Bantsi was elected to the top regional post in Cape Town, South Africa, on Saturday. "I am very happy and proud of myself and my country," Bantsi said.  Bantsi won convincingly after securing votes from 12 countries while his opponent, Ellias Mpondela of Zambia, who had been acting CAASR president, got two votes.

Mpondela was the acting president following the suspension of South Africa Athletics (SAA) president Leonard Chuene. Bantsi said he worked hard to win the post. "Such positions are not just given on a silver platter, you really need to have worked hard to get it," he said.
