The Botswana Football Association (BFA) is on the verge of tying up the chief executive officer (CEO) issue before month end after deciding acting chief, Tariq Babitseng and chief operations officer, Ernest Nthobelang, will not continue in office beyond January 31.

The decision was made at last Thursday's National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.Indications are that the majority of the NEC membership is keen on roping in an expatriate for the CEO position. The stance puts former Kent County Football Association (KCFA) boss, Keith Masters in good stead to get the post. All along, Masters had seemingly landed the job until the association was warned they had not followed proper procedure by advertising the post and subsequently conducting fresh interviews. Last week, BFA president Tebogo Sebego confirmed they expected the new man to start early in February. He did not rule out the possibility of giving the job to Masters.

And the NEC's decision that the acting CEO and COO will vacate office at the end of the month point to a new man taking over next month. However, it remains unclear whether they will still settle for an expatriate despite conducting interviews. The two NEC members Nthobelang and Babitseng were place on an interim basis pending the appointment of a new chief after Duncan Kgame quit the post last year.Nthobelang was to run affairs for three months after being appointed in November. At the time, Sebego justified the move saying it was in the best interest of football."Nthobelang is there on temporary basis and as soon as the new CEO arrives, he will be stepping down," said Sebego then. The NEC is set to meet again on Saturday and the issue of the CEO looks likely to take centre stage again. BFA has kept information about other candidates for the job under wraps.
