The entire Botswana Amateur Boxing Association (BABA) executive committee was voted back to office in elections held over the weekend. Save for the posts of president and publicity secretary, all other BABA officials were unopposed. In the contest for the presidency, the incumbent Adrin Tayane retained his position after flooring former pugilist, France Mabiletsa by 13 votes to eight.

Publicity secretary, Willough Kemoen retained his position after getting 12 votes to beat Modibedi Modibedi who got nine votes. BABA vice president (technical) Michael Moroka and treasurer Obed Monkge were unopposed. Chigutsi Frank face no contest and still remains additional member. The elections were held during the BABA Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Yarona Country Lodge in Mogoditshane.
Meanwhile, Tayane has said BABA has exhausted the funds they were given to prepare for the All African Games (AAG). Speaking at the AGM, he said that though they have already held several training camps, they are faced with a serious shortage of funds. He said they have exhausted the P192,000 they were given for the AAG preparations. Tayane said that all the stakeholders were notified in advance of the financial limitations of BABA. He revealed that BABA has named Bathusi Mogajane, Khumiso Ikgopoleng, Thato Batshegi, Gomotsang Gaaitse, Herbert Nkabiti, Moabi Mothiba and Keolopile Gabaikanngwe in its final team to the AAG. They will be under the tutelage of coach, Johannes Ditlhabang and assisted by Thebe Setlalekgosi. Willough Kemoen is the team manager.
The team went to a multi-training camp yesterday after a break of two weeks, which Tayane said was caused by financial shortages. The camp involves Lesotho, Mauritius, Namibia and Swaziland.
At the AGM, the affiliates agreed that they should change BABA to BoBA - Botswana Boxing Association. They chose BoBA so that it would not be the same as that of the Botswana Basketball Association - BBA. The association had initially submitted to the Registrar of Societies for the amendment of the name as they had agreed to change to Botswana Boxing Federation (BBF). Tayane revealed that there has been resistance from the registrar who suggested the use of association as opposed to federation. It is said the word association defines some commonality within groupings of the same understanding and purpose while federation embraces associations with a common purpose.
