BAA please hide your dirty linen!

Finest moment
moment the National Stadium lead consultant, Tectura, and government gave official versions as to why the renovation facility has taken an eternity. The nation has largely relied on speculation until last week when both parties revealed reasons why a three-month job has taken three years and still counting.

Week's disappointment
It is official. The National Stadium is indeed a pink elephant. It has taken three years to paint the stadium pink, put plastic chairs and botch-up the laying of the pitch. The public really deserves an explanation, looking at the lost opportunities. Was the rejection of a Commission of Inquiry by the Minister of Sport, Youth and Culture well informed? Looking at the magnitude of the problem in our hands, there surely needs to be an investigation as to why the construction/renovation of sports facilities in the country are bungled in similar fashion.

Talking point
Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) spokesperson, Glody Dube, is an angry man. However, his targets, BAA president, Moses Bantsi and development officer, Bobby Gaseitsiwe, see the anger as completely misplaced. Dube accuses the two of neglecting Botswana's athletics team, which participated in the just-ended Africa Junior Athletics Championships (AJAC). In the process, so much has been revealed which has seen the BAA wash its dirty linen in public. While the public deserves to know, it is imperative for the BAA to thoroughly thrash its issues indoors and emerge with one voice. One would expect Dube, as the mouthpiece of the BAA, to portray the association in good light. The apparent fissures might point to more trouble behind the scenes. Equally, Bantsi as the leader of the association, should learn to take criticism in his stride. He is said to have been livid when contacted by the press after the AJAC, arguing that the media should not focus on the negatives after the successful hosting of the continental event. Bantsi as a leader, should learn to be tolerant. He should know that in as much as he sometimes basks in praise, he should also absorb criticism in equal measure.
