*We could have handled the matter better
Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) has admitted it could have handled the Nijel Amos issue better after the association told journalists about the athlete's alleged indiscipline.

BAA, through its spokesperson, Ipolokeng Ramatshaba said it should have discussed the matter with the athlete before engaging the media. "It was unfortunate that we talked like that about our athlete (We were pressured by the media to do so)," he told Mmegi Sport yesterday. Amos made headlines last week after the association told a press conference that they were disappointed with allegations of misconduct levelled against the 800m sensation. The Amos issue was not on the agenda but journalists inquired about the London 2012 Olympic silver medallist's whereabouts.

The executive committee members then said the young Marobela star had become uncontrollable after winning the country's first ever medal at the Olympics. Ramatshaba said the media caught them off guard and that they were answering under pressure.
