Athletics team to be announced

The Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) is this week scheduled to announce the final team to represent the country at the Algiers All Africa Games (AAG). This comes in the wake of BAA's track and field events that allowed those who had not made it into the AAG squad a final chance to book themselves places to Algeria.

The one-day event was held at UB Stadium on Saturday. As expected, Kabo Gabaseme of Gaborone Runners Club (GRC) who represented the country at the Greatest Race on Earth came tops in the men's 5000m race. He gave a sterling performance to beat Keineetse Maswaswi into second position. Tholego Tshele of Selebi-Phikwe Athletics Club (SPAC) came third. In the 5000m women's category, Onkemetse Solotate of GRC also came tops ahead of Sikulule Sibanda and Janet Mokwena who finished second and third respectively.
Seonyatseng Nthompe won the women's 100m final followed by Goitsemodimo Dikinya and Gorata Kedibonye in that order.  Nthompe also showed her dominance in the sprints when she came first in the 200m final. Dikinya was the runner-up while Maria Muranga came third. Onalenna Oabona, who is currently training in Kenya, continued where he left in the recently held Africa Permit when he won the men's 800m race. Onneile Dintwe also showed that she is a dominant force in the women's 800m race by scooping first position to beat Tshepiso Ramothogobeng and Gaone Toloko into second and third places respectively.
Fanuel Kenosi scooped position one in the men's 200m race when he beat Pako Seribe and Mmoloki Seele who came second and third respectively with a blistering pace. But the exciting athlete could not beat Tlhalosang Molapisi in the 100m race and took position two ahead of Justice Molapi.
In the field events, Legase Gadifele scooped the first position in the women's shot put. Beauty Machaka and Gagoipone Keabetswe only managed to get positions two and three respectively. In the men's category, Tonic Taukobong overcame Baldip Gill and Gaamangwe Mogorosi.
Gadifele also proved her ability in the field events when she came tops in the women's javelin. She beat Khumiso Davids and Beauty Machaka. Siele Thuto was the winner in the men's high jump with Nkosana Jaha and Lobani Faki coming second and third. Thabo Muswere scooped the first position in the women's category after overcoming Charity Nkgari and Galaletsang Peloesele.
It was a tough battle in the men's 400m but Isaac Makwalo ensured that he came tops by producing a super performance to defeat second-placed Kabo Rantselane and Omphemetse Mokgadi who came third. Khumoetsile Ngope won the women's 400m race followed by Keleapere Raletsatsi and Keolebogile Mokgatle.
