Athletes miss world event after BAA blunder

Six Botswana athletes will return home from Dusseldorf, Germany after they failed to participate in the qualifiers for the 12th World Athletics Championships.

Some of the six athletes arrived late and never took part in the qualifiers while those in the relay team cannot participate because they are short. The Botswana athletics team has been training in Dusseldorf for more than two weeks for the world event, which starts in Berlin tomorrow till August 24.    

The Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) has accepted blame for the athletes' failure to take part in the qualifiers after informing a fourth member of the relay team, Amantle Montsho late.
