Athlete donates to SOS Tlokweng

Professional high jumper Kabelo Kgosiemang donated P6,400 to the SOS children's village in Tlokweng on Monday. Accompanied by his German coach, Dr Wolfgang Ritzdorf, the field star said the donation was motivated by the desire to help the needy in society. He told hundreds of children gathered at a reception that he wanted them to know that people care about them.

"It is not only your guardians here who care about you. The sporting fraternity also cares and we want to see you excel in your future endeavours," he said. Kgosiemang told the children about the joy of representing one's country as a top athlete. He said it is a satisfying experience as an international athlete becomes the darling of the nation. "You could be national idols as well if you participate in sports and excel. It does not necessarily have to be in athletics, you can do it as a footballer, cricket player, net-baller, and so forth," he said. The donation ceremony was witnessed by SOS elders and officials from the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) and Botswana Athletics Association (BAA).

Kgosiemang's coach, Dr Ritzdorf, from German Sport University in Cologne said the athlete decided to make a donation to the SOS in January. "There was an indoor competition at the college (in Cologne). Kgosiemang made a brief speech at that meeting. He said he is not asking people to pay entrance fees at the gates but requested anyone to make a donation for a charitable work that he will be doing at home during this short visit," explained Ritzdorf.
