AON sponsors inaugural bowls Invitation Trips

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The inaugural Selebi-Phikwe Invitation Trips bowls' tournament takes place this weekend with 12 teams expected to do battle in the P30,000 two-day event. The competition is sponsored by insurance brokers, AON Botswana.

Botswana Bowling Association (BBA) spokesperson, John Gaborutwe, said 12 teams have confirmed participation with host club, Selebi-Phikwe and Jwaneng fielding two sides each. Orapa and Gaborone will send a team each with the remaining four sides coming from Francistown.

Gaborutwe said the green is in perfect condition and the AON sponsorship will help BBA towards achieving its goal of nurturing talent and developing the game. Gaborutwe said for a long time, there has only been one Trips tournament in the country. He said the Selebi-Phikwe tournament presents players with an opportunity to sharpen their skills as they prepare for the African States tournament in Kenya in July.
