Team Angola walked out of the Zone IV championships prize-giving ceremony allegedly to protest against poor decisions taken against their boxers. The ceremony was held on Saturday evening immediately after the finals of the boxing championships at the Gaborone West Community Hall. But the Angolans boycotted the event and did not collect some of their medals.

The Angolans were enraged following a controversial decision to award Namibian boxer Ruben Shilongo victory in the heavyweight division bout against their pugilist Tumba Silva.  The judges' decision to declare Shilongo the winner came as a surprise to many because it was the Angolan boxer who was dominating the fight as he demolished the Namibian.   Just before the end of the fight, Silva sent the Namibian boxer sprawling on the canvas.  Shilongo was only saved by the bell. Silva was also shocked to learn that he had lost the fight.

The president of Zone IV, Michael Moroka, expressed dismay at the officiating at the tournament.   Moroka said the officiating was not up to standard, adding that there were a lot of questionable decisions in the finals.Moroka said action would be taken against the concerned judges even if it means suspending them.  The judges were from countries across the region. The Zone IV official said they have pleaded with the Angolans to accept the results even though they might have been cheated.
