Amos' win reignites medal hopes

Nijel Amos moved swiftly to smother the disappointment of Amantle Montsho's failed medal bid, when he stormed into the semi finals of the 800 metres with a fine run at London's Olympic Stadium yesterday.

Amos, exquisitely timed his race to cross the line in an impressive 1:45.90secs. He will run in the semi finals tonight at 20:55 pm (local time) hoping to become only the second athlete to reach the finals. Montsho reached the 400 metres finals on Sunday, but against expectation, failed to land the country's first ever medal.Amos started brightly, keeping within the chasing pack. Although he almost tripped in the first 300 metres, he recovered well to stay with the leading pack. He trailed Brazilian, Fabiano Pecanha before bursting in front in the last 50 metres to claim a win, which reignited the country's hopes of an Olympic medal. His time was joint third best in all the seven heats. The men's 800 metre semi final line-up for tonight:
