Amos to receive IAAF world record award

Olympic 800 metres silver medallist, Nigel Amos will tomorrow be honoured with an award from the global athletics body, IAAF for being the world junior record holder in the category.

Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) spokesperson, Ipolokeng Ramatshaba confirmed the development to Mmegi Sport saying they have received the teenager's award from IAAF and will be presented to him by the Minister of, Youth, Sport and Culture Shaw Kgathi at the end of the national cross-country championships final in Mochudi tomorrow.

Eighteen-year-old Amos powered to the finish line in the 800 metres final at the London 2012 Olympics in August to finish behind Kenya's David Rudisha in a race that commentators described as one of the greatest in recorded history.He finished the race in a time of 1:41.11, setting a new world junior record while gold medallist Rudisha set a new world and Olympic record at 1:40:91. Following his exploits at the Olympics, Amos is currently ranked third in IAAF's top 10 all-time athletes in the men's 800 metres.
