Amateur golfers warned over cash prizes

Mpho Kelosiwang, BGU secretary told Mmegi Sport that as a way of keeping the sport ‘pure’ and free from cheating, people should differentiate professional golfers and amateurs. He said some players might get tempted and manipulate handicaps in order to walk away with prizes.

He explained that professionals play golf to make a living while amateurs are in it for leisure. Kelosiwang said that if amateurs accept cash prizes, they risk suspension for breaking the rules. Already, BGU has suspended some players after they broke the rule.
