Africa junior tennis tourney gets underway

The 34th edition of the Africa Junior Tennis Championship warm-up competition got underway in Gaborone yesterday with players drawn from Europe, America and Africa participating.

The warm-up competition is a prelude to the AJTC tournament that starts on April 3 and will have more than 215 players from 29 African countries competing. Botswana Tennis Association (BTA) spokesperson, Nelson Amanze said 25 players will represent Botswana in the AJTC tournament. He said he was positive that Botswana will emerge with good results as the preparations have gone on well.

Amanze, however, cautioned that people should not expect much from the team as there are tennis powerhouses that will compete in the tournament. Botswana finished 22nd in the last junior championship held in Abuja, Nigeria, last year.
