We need to maintain strong families

We in Botswana have unfortunately experienced an unprecedented breakdown of this important institution due to the collapse of marriages. The victims are always unsuspecting innocent children who are left traumatised
Families are important because we are born into them, marry into them and even create them. Whatever their size-small,large or extended, strong families are our source of strength for survival. The unfolding events in our country today have no doubt challenged us as a people and we are threatened now as never before. The spate of violence and crime has paralyzed many of our communities with fear. Many of us are enduring sharp economical and social setbacks. Unemployment is rising at a frightening rate and many families are now finding it more difficult to stay together. Children are growing up in single-parent households and an increasing number are growing up poor.
March 28 will go down as a day that Batswana will never forget because of the accident that occurred near Mmamatlakala in Limpopo, South Africa. The tragedy affected not only the grieving families but the nation at large.
