We Do Not Have Any Land

Since the relocation of Basarwa from Central Kalahari Game Reserve in 1997, there have been serious allegations, propaganda and misleading information about the whole issue; that Basarwa were relocated to be incorporated into the main economic stream like all Batswana, making way for tourism, because CKGR is a tourist destination.

The population of the people was increasing and posing a threat to the ecosystem. Basarwa were hunting for commercial purposes and many more other reasons were given by those who are for relocation (government's version of the story).

Contrary to this, those who are against the relocation argued that CKGR is an ancestral land for Basarwa; development must follow Batswana wherever they are including Basarwa. One has to be developed with what is around him/her. Botswana can be developed with diamonds, which are found in Botswana not fish, which is not in Botswana. Therefore, residents of the CKGR have to be developed with the game or resources within their vicinity and most of all, Basarwa were relocated to make way for mining. So it is up to individuals to make critical analysis and then make their decisions as whom to follow.
