Unpacking Collective Responsibility As Espoused By Khama

Pondering on President Khama 's inaugural speech, one aspect that interested me was the notion of collective responsibility, which called upon all of us to take centre stage in ensuring that we partake in our national development drive.

Khama said that for him to succeed we must all succeed. He went on to emphasize that this is our country and as such we should strive to achieve greater success by showing collective will.

Collective responsibility put simple is a concept according to which individuals are to be held responsible for other people's actions. In essence, if Botswana fails in her development agenda lets us not blame anyone for that because we are all accountable. Albert Eistein once said "The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it". What Albert meant was that if we fail at individual level we fail a lot more people and we make the world an undignified place to live in.
