To Mugabe: on your birthday

The 21st of February 2008 marks Robert Gabriel Mugabe's 84th year of breathing. As is the norm, this day will be celebrated in pomp and style throughout Zimbabwe.

Normally, one's birthday is celebrated in appreciation of well-lived years. Goodwill messages are sent to the birthday boy and wishes for many more years are prayed for.

As Mugabe's friends and well-wishers trip over themselves to get their "happy" birthday messages delivered in time, I wish to join the fray and extend my happiness towards his ageing. Be that as it may, I wish to state clearly that my message does not have any sentiments of "many more years". I am only happy that this day marks a minus on his years of ruling Zimbabwe.
