The way forward

Most Batswana soccer lovers are disapointed by the national team (Zebras) failure to qualify for the next group stage of 2010 world cup.

It's natural as soccer fans to blame the coach, Stan inherited the team right in the middle of qualifying games after the sacking of Briton coach, Colwyn Rowe. The coach is to blame, since he took over, he did not produce good results except for a lucky win in Mozambique. He was given a lot of time training the squad, but against Madagascar, the team looked disjointed and were unable to make two passes. What the BFA should do is to restructure their technical department, some faces have been there for the past 10 years and results are not coming. Every success of the football association is measured by the performance of their national team, so the continous failure by the Zebras means that the BFA is doing something wrong.

Since the change of football season from February to December our top players have not had an off-season, I think fatigue is slowly cripping in! The low standard of our league contributes heavily to poor perfomance of the national team, our clubs continue hiring substandard foreign coaches who retard the growth of our soccer. BFA should also try to include some former Zebras players on their technical department, look at Brazil, they have appointed Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri (Dunga) as their national coach, which is good as development of their home grown coach. The preparation of the 2012 AFCON should start now some in the current team are going to retire soon players like Viola, Dipsy who are above 30 and we have to groom young players who will replace them. We have to be serious and we should appoint a well-experienced international coach so that he can help us to unearth our own Antonio Augusto Ribeiro Reis Junior (Juninho Purrambucano), a player who is deadly in free kicks.
