The Agony Of An Unemployed Graduate

It was around April 2000 when I heard Radio Botswana's one O'clock bulletin announcing that Form Five results are out and immediately I boarded a bus from Palapye to Francistown.

The next day I went to my former school FSS to check the results. As I expected I found that I got first class and I thought that I had the world at my feet. Eight years later I am sitting in my home village armed with a BSc Biotechnology degree. For the whole of last year I have visited in many government departments and companies without any success. There is even a joke around the village that going to university is nothing because you spend years there and return to the village with only papers.

Some of our cohorts have turned us into laughing fodder. Last year I listened to the State of Nation address by President Festus Mogae saying that unemployment is going down.
