Thank You Mr President

It was not my intention to write this article lest I attract attack for being unpatriotic, negative, and disrespectful of elders or against the ruling party. I know nowadays, everything you say as a way of sharing your thoughts, is construed as attack (malatsi a bo mmualebe o bua la gagwe gore mona lentle a le tswe a fokotsegile).

I am simply writing this article to gratefully and whole heartedly thank the President for his recent decision to abandon or drop the lawsuit he was pursuing in his personal capacity against the well known investigative Sunday Standard newspaper. It was on June 12 when I was watching Btv tha I heard the announcement made by the director of the Department of Broadcasting Services (DBS). When I heard the introduction, "His Excellency Lt. Gen. Khama has decided to abandon the defamation lawsuit against Sunday Standard newspaper," I screamed very loud as I could.

I still question myself why I did that. I listened attentively to the whole announcement and even the Setswana version the following day in Radio Botswana and Btv. That was a great move by you Mr President for the better peace and interest of the nation and our democracy and thanks also to the High Level Consultative Council (HLCC) because they provided very intelligent advise which was lacking. They should do more on other burning issues currently on the public domain. The case was going to be a really bad precedence and could have led us into a constitutional crisis. I heard the case was winnable for the President even though I think that one could only be tested by the courts because all sides always believe they are going to win even during elections.
