SADC, Mbeki must ensure the Zimbabwe assignment succeeds

President Thabo Mbeki has wasted no time in embarking on the Zimbabwe assignment that he was given by the SADC summit held in Dar es Salaam recently. There have already been reports of contacts between his government and the Zimbabwean opposition Movement for Democratic Change.

Nevertheless, the latest initiative deserves support even though it was launched with the usual gestures of appeasement towards the Mugabe regime.
