Response to GIPS

This is in response to an announcement that appeared in the Sunday Standard of November 16 2008, and subsequently in the Botswana Gazette, Mmegi and other publications, the announcement which was seemingly sponsored by the Student Representative Council (SRC) of Gaborone Institute of Professional Studies (GIPS) Gaborone campus.

In the said announcement, the SRC of GIPS wishes to detach itself from the recent petition to the minister of Education by BCP youth in solidarity with some students from GIPS and other institutions of higher learning.

Above all I wish to observe that there is nothing wrong in distancing oneself from issues that one believes are not a true reflection of oneself, or are a misrepresentation of the true state of affairs but it is my conviction that when one does so it has to be with absolute necessity. There has to be compelling reasons for one to distance him/herself from certain issues. In the absence of such reasons, then one's motive becomes questionable.
