Remembering Captain Christopher Phatshwe

On the morning of 11th October 1999,Comrade Captain Christopher Phatshwe, gave his life for the sake and love of the labouring and poor people. Phatshwe was infuriorated by the oppression and exploitation of local pilots and workers in general.

Attempts to dialogue with the authorities had failed and the only way left, was for him to act. His message was loud and clear.

Phatshwe was a Marxist -Leninist and a black consciousness adherent. In short, he was a Melsian. At the formation of MELS STUDY MOVEMENT OF BOTSWANA he was elected its first Secretary General. When MELS was transformed into a Party, he became the Secretary General for a short period before opting to join the public service, and later he rejoined the Central Committee as Secretary General when he joined Debswana Mining Co. In a short time, he rejoined public service and comrade Letetsemang Kesentseng was elected Secretary General, the position he held until his death in December 2006.
