Playing with fire

The intelligence law, has been passed by a truncated Parliament. The BDP seems to be desperate to exorcise spooks, invisible to majority Batswana, but visible to themselves alone. National governments, normally, give explicit reasons for creating draconian security institutions: KGB, CIA, MOSSAD, BOSS, CIO.

These institutions were not created on hypothetical grounds but targeted against (ill)defined subversives: counter-revolutionaries, communists, anti-Semites, freedom fighters and dissidents. The measures invariably fail to exorcise spooks imagined. Can the charlatan intelligence "masterminds" in the BDP, who wish to kill our emerging home-grown multi-party democratic culture, with their own DISS, on the basis of pure hypothesis, fair better?

Fire will burn them and all of us.The "Honourable" Minister, promises the opposition, consultation, in black and white;  again in black and white, defers  the matter until further notice; ultimately pretends that he made no such undertaking, by thrusting the bill upon a potentially depleted  House for urgent debate, in a take it or leave it manner; refuses an adjournment of a mere two days so that all may come on board; he then cocks a snook at the punch-drunk opposition by dashing off to Zambia for a three-day celebration for macabre triumph over democratic norms.
