Our Local Institutions Need A State Of Emergency

Botswana is one of the few countries in the world that offers free institutional education. Let alone the new cost recovery measures introduced by the incompetent education ministry.

The government has actually come up with a good system that lacks close monitoring and continuous reporting to at least a Board independent of the ministry.

Recently, the government decided that some students will be sent to the local institutions to cut the costs of sending them outside the country. This has come with a heavy cost that the new initiative did not foresee probably due to their lack of tebelopele. Most of these institutions are milking the government of taxpayers' hard-earned cash by providing very poor education.  It is quite disappointing to learn that some of these institutions exploit and pay their desperate foreign lecturers little amount of money to provide the supposedly quality education to these students. Moreover, these lecturers are not even provided with accommodation and they have to hassle to try and find descent accommodation, while at the same time are expected to deliver in their lecture rooms.
