Our Health policy is outdated

This opinion is inspired by a perpetual need of a better Health Care Policy for Botswana.

Our past contributions to this debate may have been pervaded by frustration and condescension, and one must admit that we met arrogance of an equal magnitude from the powers that be. In this opinion the author seeks to bring to our attention the issues facing health care delivery in our country. The author believes as a nation we owe it to ourselves to better our health care delivery capabilities and quality, and the key to effecting change is human development with retention of a qualified and capable workforce. The ordinary citizen might have been overlooked in our seemingly esoteric exchange between citizen medical doctors and the Ministry of Health.

The local media has a great role to play in conveying to the ordinary citizen that they are the most powerful force who can effect change by demanding it from political leaders. Ultimately, the solution lies in consultative leadership whereby the government would enter into a dialogue with all our doctors including those abroad to lure them back home by addressing their reasonable demands.
