Nkate must resign or be fired!

Recent newspaper reports about the Minister of Education and Skills Development Jacob Nkate having received sponsorship for his political campaign from NIIT- as per his own admission, are quite disturbing.

NIIT is an institution of education whose monitoring (as to whether they provide good quality education - in terms of lecturers, education material, administration and student welfare etc - that conforms to the education policy) is done by the Ministry of Education and Skills Development headed by Nkate. Also, following the government's decision to sponsor students at private tertiary institutions, NIIT is a beneficiary of business from the government. Much as politicians have the right to solicit sponsorship from any potential "sponsors" as Nkate tried to explain, it was gross violation of the ethics of transparency and good governance on the part of the "Honourable" Minister that he asked for and accepted such sponsorship from donors who are a direct beneficiary of business from and whose line of trade fall under his ministry. This is a clear case of conflict of interest.

Nkate's actions also raise lots of suspicion in the wake of recent reports that students at the Francistown College of Technical and Vocational Education (which Nkate should be more concerned with - as a government institution), have not received their allowances since they started school in the past 2 months, while those from NIIT (Nkate's sponsors) have been paid. This may be interpreted to mean that in his duties, the Minister made sure that students from his sponsor-institution (NIIT) are well cared for at the expense of students from this other government institutions, who are similarly much deserving.
