Monarch rule re-surfacing in Kgatleng

I am one of those disturbed to learn that 15 members of a theatre performing group of Maranyane Institute of Information Management and Accounting, were punished by Bakgatla Tribal Authority for staging a drama piece scripted on the bogwera and bojale (cultural initiations) of Kgatleng.

The performance rubbed  Bakgatla Tribal Authority the wrong way as they lashed members of the group as they were adjudged to have "transgressed" the tribal rule of Bakgatla. Botswana Training Authority together with the Department of Culture and GTZ hold annual drama competitions in conjunction with Botswana Vocational Schools. The drama competitions serve as one of the intervention strategies towards HIV and AIDS mitigation.

As an artist, I undertake to discuss the vital principles of Botswana democracy and culture. I have here opened some arguments, and risk a few conjectures; but less from the hope of being able to solve the difficulty, than with a view to throw some light upon it.
