Ministry on Jwaneng clinical waste

The Ministry of Local Government notes with concern recent media coverage of the alleged, 'abandonment of clinical waste at Mogale ward in Unit 5 Jwaneng.' The Ministry regrets these alarmist headlines and would like to clarify the matter and set the record straight.

The public is duly informed of the following:

The cool box that is reported to have been abandoned did not contain clinical waste as reported but rather, this was a specimen cool box that contained sealed vaccutainer needles and test tubes.  The majority of the test tubes were empty and although some among these were broken, the test tube that contained the specimen was retrieved intact.
