Let us retain death penalty

The prophet Muhammad accepted the justice of taking a life for a life under the condition that nobody should take the law in their own hands and take revenge. Although some Christians argue that taking of a life as a penalty devalues human life, other christians do support the death penalty as an acceptable method of punishment. Furthermore , I have read with interest that in traditional Botswana society, anti-social activities like witchcraft and murder were punishable by either throwing the perpetrator into a deep cave and left to die a slow painful death or simply excluded from the life and privileges of the village.
In modern secular society, many innocent people have become victims of hideous crimes like armed robbery,incest,ritual murder, rape and 'passion killing'. This is true of Botswana where some of these evils are gradually becoming common. And by the way South Africa, one of the most dangerous places on this earth, long abolished the death penalty. Perhaps that's the more reason why violent crime is lucrative and booming in a country that will host the world for the premier sporting event in 2010.
It underscores the indispensable role women play in our society, particularly in building strong households and nurturing families.
