Lest unite for the good of the country

Mr. Editor, allow me space in your newspaper to join the chorus of those who are put on trial for allegedly castigating the president of this country when they decry the serious degeneration of democratic space.

Botswana is fast losing image of being showered with accolades as a beacon of democracy. Today, the fog of weary democracy emotion, civilian autocracy is cementing itself in our beloved country. Killings of unarmed civilians by security personnel have become the order of the day with ministers issuing flimsy, dubious and unconvincing statements. Rather, it has been capped by a succession of imperial, but inept presidencies.

Today, like a tension-laden death-row prisoner awaiting the executioner's call, Batswana are saddled with a decadent and despondency driven  democracy that acts as a silent partner in all the unholy enterprises - embezzlement, intimidation, killings, severe torture, deportation, seduction and corruption of the innocent. Indeed, 14 months of denudation by the demagoguery,   to convince Batswana whether they have democracy or a demonstration of craze.
