Khama is a boost to informal sector

The recent announcement by the Office of the President regarding empowering citizens is an indication that the new President is a doer rather than the previous two before him.

Like his father in the early 70's who abolished local tax, radio and Chibuku licence with a stroke of a pen, Ian Khama abolished harassment of poor Batswana who are trying to make ends meet by his empowerment directive, which will put food on the table for people in the informal sector.

Since 1998 the government of Festus Mogae talked of citizen empowerment yet there is no single government purchase of parastatals that excludes non-citizens. Today you find Chinese, Indians and Nigerians among others fighting with Batswana to supply government or local authorities with pens and pencils.
