Khama And The BDP Chairmanship: A Shrewd Political Strategy?

This is in response to the view of reputable University of Botswana academics Dr Zibani Maundeni and Log Raditlhokwa recently that Vice President Ian Khama should have not contested for re-election of the chairmanship of the BDP.

I would like to differ with the two men whom I consider to be important political commentators and of great importance for the institution of democracy in Botswana due to their active contribution in national issues.

By standing for the elections, he is not blocking the way nor encroaching on the path of any member of the BDP. He did not decree to stand unopposed but I would like to believe that the status quo is a sign that the democrats themselves are satisfied by the way Khama has been executing his functions as the party chairman for the past three years.
