Journalists Should Report Facts

It was really sickening and embarrassing at the same time to listen to one of our local radio stations last week as the presenter went on about how 'ignorant' Batswana are about soccer...all because we begged to differ with the Botswana Football Association (BFA) on the [non]importance of Saturday's game between Botswana and New Zealand.

Listening to the presenter was like listening to a BFA or the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) spokesperson as the presenter tried everything he could muster to convince us that going to that game would be the next best thing after sliced bread.

I had always thought that journalists are supposed to report facts and if they have their opinion, they should just pass them to us like that...their opinion. Here the presenter was trying to pass his opinion about the game as fact and he was embarrassing at that. First of all, while the BNSC shouldered the blame for the mess with the game, the presenter could not see such mess. I understand that there is a lot of  money these days in end of year awards and prizes, but don't be a bootlicker to try and score yourself an award. It is downright stupid and embarrassing.
