In defence of a voiceless democracy

We all have the right to elect which battles to fight, and sometimes if we are fortunate and we have control of the battlefield platform we may be victorious. Our choices may at times betray our lack of appreciation of the fundamental issues or a superficial approach to issues of nation building.

In a movie about Stephen Hawking, he told a certain professor that he was wrong about the origins of the universe and that the big bang was the origin of the universe. The professor asked Hawking " where is the fossil?". As some glorify our past democratic status some of us ask the same question, " where is the fossil of this alleged former status? We do this because we can present evidence to the contrary. Our defenders of democracy must respond.

As far back as the 1950's Kgosi Tshekedi Khama called for meaningful participation of our people in the economy of the country. Around 1981 Rre Magang also called for meaningful participation of citizens in the economy of the country. Nearly a quarter century later parliament passed a motion calling for formulation of a citizen economic empowerment policy.
