Ian Khama is not media friendly

The next President, Lt Gen Ian Khama is not media friendly; at least so far. He has in the past been quoted to the effect that he does not read local papers; may be he has changed that stance; if not then I suggest his advisors be sent packing.

Botswana media has grown steadfastly over the years and is probably one of the most vibrant in the region. Any leader worth his or her salt would ignore the media at his or her own risk. While there are still challenges in the investigative role, which is partly stifled by lack of access to information law, the media has shown a greater growth in other aspects such as cartoons and debate programmes or columns.

Over the past years, I do not remember a single interview he gave the media, except a few public relations television clips addressing a BDP rally or giving out charity. I must also mention a few, barely more than two, I think, written interviews given to some newspapers. Of course this is subject to correction in case I have over looked one genuine face to face interview with Lt Gen Ian Khama.
