I seek audience with the media and Batswana

I seek audience with the local media and Batswana in general to state my reservations with the leadership of Gilson Saleshando at the Botswana Congress Party.

For a party that seeks to portray itself as an alternative to the BDP, the ineptitude and uninspiring leadership style of its leader betrays the image of the party. Throughout recent debates on issues of national concern, silence has been the attribute of the BCP president. When attempting to add his views, his sterile and weak contributions have been undermined by his vitriolic and dishonest attacks on other opposition parties, especially the BNF.Botswana, being a democracy as it is purported to be, often delegates at party congresses are being tortured to go through these kind of venom that characterises some of our leaders. This must come to an end.

Political demagoguery and blind oratory must not be tolerated within our political landscape. As a democracy, Botswana requires a leadership that is well versed with pertinent issues that concern our society. Informed debate and critical discussion of issues affecting the society must be the norm. It is depressing, unfortunate and deeply worrisome that we continue to witness some of our leaders engaging in pedestrian shouts match that boarder on ridicule and personal attacks on those that they do not share views with. The building of a formidable democracy will not be achieved if Batswana rate their leaders, not by principle and the content of their political agendas, but by the amount of venom that a leader can spit on the public fora. Unless we want to create leaders in the mould of the German priest of propaganda, Goebells, or the former Iraqi minister of propaganda under Saddam, we must not allow ourselves to be swamped by the on-going BCP president's campaign of vilification against the Botswana National Front and it's leader, Otsweletse Moupo.
