How MELS lost Hatsalatladi

The Hatsalatladi by-election has confirmed that the strength of the BDP lies in its resources incumbency and its reliance on the vote of the old people. The BDP placed at least five vehicles in the village well manned and had enough petrol to marshal campaign in the sparsely populated and vast area.

Even the BNF could not muster this strength, the BDP continuously provided food to the residents and this made it extremely difficult for most of their old members to receive new political education from MELS which has deliberately targeted the BDP voters. It is clear that with no resources the BDP will quickly fade away.

As the campaign gained momentum, the BDP became aggressive, hostile, rough and largely intimidated their voters who were targeted by the BNF and MELS. The BDP foot soldiers became so unethical to the extent that on two occasions the MELS election manager had to call the police.
