Gov't response to veldt fire claims

The Office of the Minister for Defence, Justice and Security has noted with serious concern a newspaper report alleging that one or more individuals have circulated a document insinuating that the recent outbreak of fires in the country could in some, unexplained, way be linked to the Force.

We take this opportunity to reassure the public that there is presently no evidence to support any such connection.
We can further confirm that the document is not authentic BDF stationary and therefore does not come from any BDF office.

The insinuation contained in the document, moreover, runs counter to the BDF mission to at all times provide for the security of Botswana in a disciplined and professional manner.
It also runs counter to the hard work and dedication of the over 3000 BDF personnel who have, since the beginning of August, been at the forefront of assisting community and Government stakeholders in combined efforts to bring the fires under control.
