Foreign Affairs responds

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation wishes to respond to a letter by Rebatho Montsho entitled Can President Khama just clarify Mmegi newspaper, September 4, 2008, p8.

HE Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama, President of the Republic of Botswana, went to Zambia to attend the funeral of the late HE Levy P. Mwanawasa, President of the Republic of Zambia and to extend condolences and sympathy to Maureen Mwanawasa and family, the Government and people of Zambia. The people of Botswana understand the need to respect the memory of the departed President of Zambia. In this respect, it is inappropriate to introduce debates about the situation in Zimbabwe into the funeral of a man the nation of Botswana admired and respected.
